In 2015, the two PET recycling plants in the country registered about 36,000 tons of recyclable PET, which is 5% more than in 2014, according to the PET Recycling Association.
According to the Association, compared to incineration, PET recycling saves up to 52% energy and reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 67%. In the best of cases, the same recycled material can be used to make new bottles, encouraging reuse. For this reason, the Swiss organization highlights the importance of separating PET bottles from other plastic waste.
In addition, taking into account the low price of oil, with which new bottles of this type are manufactured, and the new forms of selective collection of plastics that threaten the production of these bottles in a closed circuit, the recycling and reuse of this material it is becoming more and more important. However, the increase in the selective collection of PET, leads the organization to further improve the detection techniques and improvement of the collection points, multiplying them in the coming months.
