Many ecological organizations have warned about the situation of the increase of CO2 in the atmosphere, which can have dire consequences for the planet and those who inhabit it.
According to the Mauna Loa Observatory located in Hawaii, in the last measurements made over the weekend, the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere reached more than 415 parts per million (ppm), much more than at any other time of the last 800 thousand years of planet Earth.
Measurements have been continuous since the program was initiated in 1958 by the late Charles David Keeling, for whom a graph of increasing atmospheric CO2 concentration is called the Keeling Curve.
Meteorologist Eric Holthaus wrote via twitter account that “this is the first time in human history that the atmosphere of our planet has had more than 415 ppm of CO2. Not just as far back as we have records, not just from the invention of agriculture 10,000 years ago. Since before modern humans existed millions of years ago. We don't know a planet like this ”.
Having these high levels of carbon monoxide in the atmosphere has already increased the planet's temperature by one degree. If this continues to grow for example one degree more, the result would be devastating, since extreme temperatures would be reached.
A study by the World Resources Institute warns of what can happen to us if the temperature of the planet increases by two degrees Celsius: extreme heat, summers without ice at the poles, an increase of almost half a meter in sea level, the disappearance of 8% of the vertebrates on land and 99% of marine corals, etc. In addition there would be an increase in cyclones, floods and heat waves, which would cause millions of species to disappear.
Following these revelations, experts in meteorology and ecology are asking governments around the world to do something about it and take the matter very seriously. This situation can have disastrous consequences for the Earth and its inhabitants. Some have even claimed that if this is not controlled in 2030 there will no longer be a way to reverse the situation.
